Introduction
Powerline adaptors (PLAs) enable your internet connection to be carried through your electrical circuit. You will have one adaptor plugged into an electrical wall socket near your internet router. This will be connected to your internet router via an ethernet cable.
You will have a second adaptor plugged into an electrical wall socket near your battery. This will be connected to your Social Energy/Levelise Hub via an ethernet cable.
There are different types of PLAs available, here are some common ones.
Guidelines
If you are having issues with your powerline adaptors please take note of these pointers and then follow the pairing process below.
- Powerline adaptors must be plugged directly into electrical wall sockets and not into an extension lead.
- Powerline adaptors work best when they are on the same electrical circuit. If you have multiple electrical circuits in your property, you may need to use a different method to connect your Social Energy/Levelise Hub to the internet.
- The ethernet cables connecting your powerline adaptors to your internet router and Social Energy/Levelise Hub must be free from damage and be CAT5 or above with eight pins in the connectors.
- If either of your powerline adaptors is making a buzzing noise, they will probably need replacing.
- If you need to replace your powerline adaptors, they are available from Amazon, Argos and other retailers. If you are not sure which model is best for you, please contact us.
- Generally all the lights on the powerline adaptors should be illuminated and green. If not, this suggests an issue - please see the pairing process below.
- Power - this is illuminated when the powerline adaptor is switched on. Some models blink when power-saving mode is on.
- Powerline - this is illuminated when the adaptors are paired. Some models have a red and/or orange light that indicates a poor signal.
- Ethernet - this is illuminated when there is an ethernet cable connected to the adaptor.
Pairing process
- Please turn off the Social Energy Hub. This can be done by lifting the small panel on the front of the white box labelled "Social Energy" then flicking the switches down one at a time starting from the left hand side.
- Disconnect the ethernet cable from the powerline adaptor near your Social Energy Hub. Unplug the powerline adaptor from the wall socket.
- Plug the powerline adaptor into a wall socket (not an extension lead) in the same room as the powerline adaptor that is connected to your internet router.
- Press and hold the pair button on the powerline adaptor connected to your internet router for one second. The Power light should start blinking.
- Within 2 minutes, press and hold the pair button on the other powerline adaptor for one second. The Power light should start blinking.
- If pairing is successful, the Powerline light will be illuminated.
- Return the powerline adaptor to its previous location and reconnect it to the Social Energy Hub with the ethernet cable. Check the lights are all illuminated.
- Turn the Social Energy Hub back on by flicking the switches up one at a time starting from the right hand side.
- Log into your Levelise App. On the dashboard there should be units consumed in the section called Consumption which updates every few seconds. This will confirm the system has been reconnected. It may take 24 hours for the Battery Status indicator to change from red to green or blue.
Still having issues?
- Please test the internet is reaching the Social Energy Hub with this process.
- Please take photos of:
- both of your powerline adaptors showing the lights
- the underside of the Social Energy Hub showing the connection
- the back of your internet router showing the connection
- Send these photos to support@levelise.com and we will review them and get back to you as soon as possible.
